espace Paul Rebeyrolle

Paul Rebeyrolle (1926-2005) (1926 – 2005) was born in Eymoutiers. He has gained recognition as one of the foremost twentieth-century French painters.
His striking works of art, centred on violent yet noble themes up hold freedom, combat injustice, intolerance, and the enslavement of both mankind and nature; constituting an authentic testimony of our time.

The "espace Paul Rebeyrolle", designed by the architect Olivier Chaslin, has been open since 1995.
In this special place, more than 40 paintings are exhibited. They represent the artist's production since 1959 until today..
Since its creation, the centre has been enriched of four sculptures which have got exceptionel dimensions, and where all senses and the generosity of material (bronze, ceramics, plasters) are expresssed.
The number of visitors has been increasing each year. At the moment about 10 000 people a year are visiting the centre; this gives our "espace" a good position among the other provincial art centres.

Temporary exhibitions:
Eymoutiers' art centre organises temporary exhibitions which is in keeping with a cultural project that aims at promoving the French and French-speaking countries art, inviting the visitors to discover uncommon or unknown careers.

• 2003: "Algeria, five artists", N. Benbouta, B. Boudjelal, T. Mesli, H. Tibouchi & K. Yahiaoui.
• 2004: Marcel Pouget, paintings; Roel D'Haese, sculptures
• 2005: Rebeyrolle "Plongeons dans la peinture"
• 2007 : Dubuffet, Les dix dernières années
• 2008 : Picasso, gravures et lithographies

The pedagogical service proposes visits, animations, art practise especially adapted to school publics.
All year round, guided visits are possible too for groups over 10 people (reservation are compulsory).
